Universality: The one with the Mental Health Art Exhibit

Updated: Aug 26

In just 3 short months, our team pulled this off a fantastic 1-day exhibit on Saturday, August 24, 2024 where we...

  • Empowered communities to explore mental health with 7 diverse panels

  • Featured over 20 pieces of mental health inspired art

  • Hosted 3 ARTivism Workshops for communities to start taking action

  • Engaged 16 artists and 20 panelists from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines

Our event organizers explored ways to make the event accessible by undergoing training by Canadian Accessibility Standards (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act). One example of how accessibility was implemented was mindfully accomodating needs for more frequent breaks which may be particularly helpful for people who are neurodivergent. Each panel was 20 minutes and spaced with 5 minute breaks. Not only did this provide individuals with the flexibility to come and go as they please, it also promoted organic conversation and community connections sparked by insights from panels.

At its core, each panel was unfiltered, raw, genuine and most of all, full of empathy. And we were so happy to see how this resonated with the community.

Here are some of the things they shared with us:

I'm honestly so inspired!
Thank you so much for this opportunity to reflect on my experiences

While there were definitely natural challenges that arose throughout the planning process, we are so appreciative for the beautiful opportunity we had to empathize and connect with the community, and celebrate the diversity of human experiences.
